How the mini-mock works

The mini-mock has 15 questions, timed at the exam's average of 84 seconds a question, which is 21 minutes in all. Each question has five options and one correct response, as in the AMC CAT MCQ. You answer each question to move on, and there is no going back, no changing an answer and no review at the end, which is the rule the AMC sets for the exam.

Our adaptive practice chooses questions from your answers so far. A correct answer moves the next question up a level of difficulty and a wrong answer moves it down. The order is our own and is not a model of the AMC's method, which the AMC does not publish in full. How adaptive scoring works sets out what the AMC does publish about its exam.

What the result shows

After the last question you see each question again, with an explanation for every option. The result shows the share of our questions you answered correctly, overall and by subject, and the time you took. It is not an AMC score and is not converted to the AMC's scale of 0 to 500.

Fifteen questions cover part of the AMC blueprint, which spreads 150 questions across six patient groups, with adult medicine and adult surgery making up half. One or two questions in a subject are too few to rank subjects with confidence, and in an adaptive set the percentage also depends on how hard the questions became.
